The purpose of this research is to compare the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug ATX-101 (sodium deoxycholate) compared with a placebo (a solution that looks similar but does not have any active drug in it) in the reduction of excessive fat in the area under the chin (turkey gobbler). Injectable ATX-101 is a chemical similar to the one produced by the body.
Long term results in this and other studies indicate safe and reliable reduction in submental fat. More information will be forthcoming when the study is completed. This was a Phase III study, and thus the drug is not currently approved or available for use in patients.
